Synchronized Swimming: Fourth FINA World Trophy Kicks Off Compeition
USA Synchronized Swimming November 28, 2009
Indianapolis, Ind. – The top synchronized swimming countries in the world gathered in Montreal, Canada today for day one of competition of the 4th FINA World Trophy. Today’s competition included the Highlight Team event and the Thematic Duet event.
Team USA grabbed sixth place in the thematic duet with a 92.000. The United States were represented by Alyson Haylor and Alexa Tchekmarev. Host country Canada won the event with a 98.667. Russia took home the silver medal with a medal 97.667 while Spain claimed the third place position with a 97.333. China (97.000) and Japan (92.667) took home the fourth and fifth places respectively.
In the Team Highlight event, Team USA scored a 90.667, which was good enough for a seventh place finish. Canada (98.333), Russia (97.333) and China (96.000) all topped the medal stand while Spain (95.333), Japan (93.333) and Italy (91.333) followed.
The FINA World Trophy is a unique competition as it is judged solely on artistic merit. The elite international competition is being held at the Olympic Park Sports Centre and is hosted by the Canadian Synchronized Swimming Federation (Synchro Canada).

Kim Wurzel-Lo Porto, a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team;
Kim Probst, a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team and
Emily Van Vleck, a former U.S. National Team member

United States Synchronized Swimming (USSS) serves as the National Governing Body for the sport of synchronized swimming, appointed as such by the United States Olympic Committee. USSS is a membership-based and non-for-profit organization which services the sport from the grass roots level to the National Team. The mission statement of USSS is "to provide leadership and resources for the promotion and growth of synchronized swimming, to achieve competitive excellence at all levels and to develop broad based participation."
